Honoring Edward Killeen
To: All MRX personnel, All time zones, Highest Priority.
From: Neil Gerardo
Please join with me in standing at Formal Attention to observe three minutes of silence as we forever mark the memory of Edward Killeen,
who served with Distinction and Honor as a Marine aboard the USS TENNESSEE,
in the crow’s nest during the attack on Pearl Harbor....
He continued in the service of his Country in the battle of the Coral Sea, Saipan, where he was wounded in combat and awarded the Purple Heart,
not deterred, his service continued in Iwo Jima.
During our silence, we shall attempt to envision the horrific sights and sounds Edward Killeen endured as a young soldier within the chaos of all-out war.
As permanent and revered as the Stars on The Wall, the dignity of Edward Killeen’s memory lives forever.
Edward Killeen passed away in the summer of 2014 and was buried at the Sacramento National Cemetery with
Full Military Honors.
Upon conclusion, as is appropriate, a Slow Salute shall reflect our heartfelt and intense admiration of a
Distinguished Individual
who represented and defined the highest order of what it means to be an American.
